My Get Out of Town Guide: Week 1

Is Brighton no longer for you? Do you want to move closer to a new job, or closer to your grandkids? You’ve come to the right place.

This is week 1 of my 5-week Get Out of Town Guide, designed to help you make a plan for a smooth, stress-free (as possible!) relocation. Let’s get started!

“But Elsa! I thought you’d start me looking at houses in Florida or putting my house on the market here in Brighton! What’s this WHY business?”

Good question. We have to start with a little introspection, because moving anywhere, let alone out of state, is a complex emotional process with tons of small decisions along the way. Finding your “why” will help you make these decisions, AND help me guide you as well!

So, why do you want to move? Sit down and write a list. I’m not going anywhere, I promise. I’ll be right here when you’re done. Do you want to live somewhere with a lower cost of living? Do you want more room to spread out? Do you want to live closer to family?

The “WHY?” is the most important question you will ask yourself, but here are some more questions to consider about your move:

What is your ideal location? Obviously you don’t have to know exactly where you want to move yet. But beginning to paint with broad strokes and imagine your life in your new town/city/state will help you along the way.

Picture waking up in the morning in your new home. What does your ideal day look like? Do you wake up and drink coffee on your front porch overlooking the lake? Can you smell the ocean from your open bedroom window? Do you wake up and get ready for your grandkids to come over?

Considering these questions NOW, at the beginning of the process, will guide all of your decision-making throughout the next few months as you sell your home and buy a new home. And keeping your WHY? in mind will help you make decisions that are the right ones for you and your family.
